Notes |
- Based on the age of her siblings and geography, I believe she is the Martha Ann Applegate who married Noah Furman in 1819. Jack Furman wrote in his unpublished monograph "The Applegates of the Lower Part of South Amboy":
The record of the 1822 marriage of William Furman and Matilda Wood appears in the series in the GMNJ on marriages performed at the Cheesequake Baptist Church between 1798 and 1835 by Rev. John Fountain. On 11 March 1819 Rev. Fountain also officiated at the marriage of Noah Furman and Martha Applegate (with Andrew Bowne and Susan Furman as witnesses). See 44 GMNJ at 131.
The household of Noah and Martha Furman will be found in the 1830 Census in the Lower Part of South Amboy at page 259. Noah died of cholera in 1832 (see 14 GMNJ at 84); in the 1840 Census, at page 029, Martha Furman is reported as the head of the household.
