OBITUARY OF TILLIE ALICE APPLEGATE
The Princeton Union, October 31, 1895, p. 1.
DIED
In Rockford, Wednesday, Oct. 23, Tillie Alice, beloved wife of J. W. Sausser, aged 22. Her death was caused by puerperal fever.
Mrs. Sausser was a daughter of William Applegate, born in Princeton and grew to womanhood in this village. Six years ago she was married to Mr. Sausser and shortly after moved to Rockford. She leaves a babe three weeks' old.
The funeral occurred last Sunday at the Congregational church, Rev.. C. D. Moore officiating, and was largely attended.
The following lines were written on the death of Mrs Tillie A Sausser, which sad event took place at her home in Rockford, Minn , on Oct 23rd 1895
Tillie Alice is gone to rest,
She left this word of care
To reach the Eden of the West,
And dwell forever there.
Her merry laugh rings out no more
Upon the morning air,
Her blithesome step has left the floor
Her form the vacant chair.
In vain we seek for Tillie then
Our hearts are filled with pain,
Our loss when by death's hand she fell,
Was her eternal gain
Sweet, gentle Tillie, farewell,
Till in the better land
We shall again together dwell
A loving, happy band
The Sisters of the L. A. S. No. 1, have adopted the following resolutions:
WHEREAS, It has pleased Almighty God in his wisdom to call from earthly toil to heavenly rest, Tillie, beloved wife of J. W. Sausser, and daughter of Comrade Wm. Applegate, and one near and dear to sisters, Elizabeth Sausser, Maggie Southard, Sarah Sausser, May Chapman and Lutie Bullis; and while we realize that her death has left an aching void in hearts that time alone can heal; and while we bow to the will of Him who doeth all things well; theiefore, be it
Resolved, That we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved husband, parents and friends of the deceased, and ask God's blessing on the little one who will never know a mother's love.
And be it furthermore
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be presented to J.W. Sausser and Wm. Applegate and also placed on the minutes of our society.
