Applegate, 81, of 205 W. Rickey Road, died at 12:55 a.m. today in Monticello Health Care Center. Born Nov. 19, 1912, in Bardstown, Ky. he was the son of Mark Lewis and Florence Elizabeth Krebs Applegate. On Nov. 18,1939, he was married in Monticello to Harmony J. Ball, who survives. Mr. Applegate had lived in Monticello since 1939, coming to the community from Depauw. In 1978, he retired from RCA. He also had been a bus driver for Twin Lakes School Corporation for several years and had owned and operated Monticello Marine Service for 25 years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, where he had been an usher for several years and belonged to the Holy Name Society. Mr. Applegate also belonged to the Redman Lodge. Also surviving are four sons, David L., South Bend, James G., Monticello, Wayne L., Lafayette, and Edward P., Reynolds; three daughters, Julia M. Donahue, Kokomo, Melba R. Nickerson, Reston, Va., and Ruth J. Thompson, Idaville; two sisters, Anna Totten, Monticello, and Rose Totten, South Bend, 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. One son. one grandson and four brothers preceded in death. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of the Lakes ; Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Goodrum officiating. Burial will be in Riverview IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.
