- ALBERT MILNE APPLEGATE, D.D.S.-Dr. Applegate, who is winning public favor and reputation at Keansburg, New Jersey, was born in the borough of Manasquan, Monmouth county, New Jersey, April 21, 1886, son of Enoch Roger and Sarah Barnes (Norton) Applegate, his father for many years prominent in Monmouth county as an accountant and school teacher.
As a boy Dr. Applegate attended the public schools of Ocean Grove, New Jersey, and later entered the University of Pennsylvania, whence he was graduated D.D.S. class of 1910. After graduation he established a practice at Asbury Park, where he remained for five years, going thence to West End, New Jersey, where he remained for one year in practice before moving to Hoboken, New Jersey, where the need for skilled men for service overseas found him.
He hadd enlisted in the army, Hospital Company, New Jersey National Guard, at Red Bank, New Jersey, January 12, 1915, and was promoted to sergeant, April 3, 1915. He was made first lieutenant of the Dental Corps, Medical Department, on July 17, 1917. Re-enlisting, he was again commissioned first lieutenant of the Dental Reserve Corps, and served overseas with the American Expeditionary Forces from August 7, 1917, until July 10, 1918. He was chief dental surgeon at Base Hospital, No 8, and was discharged from the service at Blois, France, June 28, 1918. Returning to the United States, Dr. Applegate, after service as inspector of public health department, established his office in Keansburg, and there is building up a constantyly increasing practice.
FRANK HARRIS APPLEGATE-In association with his brother, Robert Morris, whose sketch precedes this, Frank Harris Applegate has been a partner in a prosperous garage and service business at Bayhead, Hew Jersey, for the past six years.
Frank H. Applegate was born in Bayhead, New Jersey, April 3, 1896, and received his early and preparatory education in the public schools of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, and then became a student in the Rider Moore & Stewart Business College, at Trenton, New Jersey, from which he was graduated with the class of 1914. Upon the completion of his commercial training, he was associated with his father in the hardware business until 1917, when he took charge of his brother’s garage while the latter was in France with the American Expeditionary Forces. He gave careful attention to the management of the enterprise and when the brother returned to this country, after the signing of the armistice, Frank Harris was taken into partnership. That connection has been maintained to the present time, and the brothers have made their garage one of the well known supply and service stations of the county. In addition to storage repair work, and the sale of accessories, they have the agency for the Willys and Overland cars, and their sales are rapidly increasing. The garage includes storage room for about one hundred cars, and the Applegate brothers see to it that each car placed in the garage is carefully protected. Politically he gives his support to the Republican party, and his fraternal affiliation is withj Bayhead Lodge, No. 224, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church of Point Pleasant.
Frank Harris married, on June 22, 1921, Maude Holman, daughter of Alfred and Bertha (Hankins) Holman. Mr. and Mrs. Applegate have nho children.
