    • I think I have the marriages straightened out!

      Kate Bostwick was first - she died shortly after with no known children
      Mary Counts was second. She died sometime between 1878 (when Lily was born) and 1881 (when Andrew remarried)
      Mary (Waugh) Brinegar was third. She was the widow of Soloman Brinegar.

      These marriages are a mess. I have just entered them as they appear in TAN
      (P Cooper has a marriage to Kate Bostwick, 14 Jan 1864. This would be a 3rd wife, of whom we have heard nothing before. We will, at this time, just mention the possibility, until we obtain further proof. In a later reference to this matter, P Cooper states, "I obviously" made a boo boo "with Mary Breneger and Mary Counts…I've deleted them as I have no citations and can find no record of them on my computer." So, that leaves us in a bit of a bind. The Andrew referred to in the KY Census reports of 1850, 60, and 70, are reporting an Andrew who was born in 1843 as P Cooper has him, and, he is married to a Mary _____ in 1870, with two children, Rose and William. The age of this Mary does not fit the age of either the Mary Counts, who would have been 18 in 1870, or Mary Breneger, who would have been 10 in 1870. The age for the wife, Mary, in the KY 1870 census, is 24. So, all we know at this point is, the Andrew Applegate listed above, born 1839, is probably not the Andrew Applegate, son of Andrew which we need here. P Cooper has the correct Andrew, born 1843. But, P Cooper has, as a wife of his Andrew "Kate", where the 1870 Census says she was "Mary". P Cooper states "I've suspected "Kate" is either a middle or a nick name for Mary Bostwick." Kate is for Katherine or Catherine. Before we can assume Kate as Mary's other name, we must have some proof. And that is where we stand now. The Andrew Applegate listed as married to Mary Counts and later to Mary Brenegar, probably does not belong here. But, we do not know the masiden name of the Mary who does belong here, and, we have no idea who Kate Bostwick is.—ED)

      Voress, et al, give him a birthdate of 14 August, 1839. Based on census data, I disagree and have changed it to abt 1844
