In the name of God Amen. I Mary Lucinda Applegate of the Township of Freehold, in the County of Monmouth and State of New Jersey being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner following

First It is my will and I hereby order and direct all my just debts and my funeral expenses to be paid as soon as conveniently can be after by decease; and I further order that there be erected to my husband and myself a suitable monument to our memory which monument is be a family monument unless I erect one in my life time

Second I give bequeath and devise unto my three sons Eaton Whiting Maxcy Applegate, Robert T. Middleditch Applegate and Andrew Gassner Applegate, all my printing presses, type, fixtures and appurtenances, together with all machinery instruments implements and materials of every kind and description now used or here after to be purchased and used for the purpose of printing and publishing the Monmouth Inquirer Newspaper, and the business right of publishing and goodwill of said newspaper, also the machinery implements and materials of every kind now used or to be hereafter purchased and used, to do any job work connected with said newspaper business, as well as the business of said job work to them, their heirs and assigns forever, subject to the payment by them of the sum of five hundred dollars yearly for the period of ten years after my decease unto my five daughter Lois Angeline Grant, wife of John Grant, Mary Lucinda Applegate, Matilda Union Applegate, Anne Applegate, Julia Applegate in equal parts, share and share alike so that each of my said daughters shall receive one hundred dollars of said five hundred dollars yearly for said period of ten years and if any of my said daughters should die without leaving any heir or heirs within the said period of ten years, then I do order the share of such so dying to be paid to the survivors

Third I give and bequeath unto my five daughters Lois Angeline Grant wife of John Grant, Mary Lucinda Applegate, Matilda Union Applegate, Annie Applegate and Julia Applegate the sum of five hundred dollars yearly for the period of ten years from my decease equally to be divided between them share and share alike or in case any of them die without any heir or heirs within said time unto the survivors of them and to be paid to them by my three sons Easton Maxcy Whiting Applegate, Robert T. Middleditch Applegate and Andrew Gassner Applegate as herein directed.

Fourth I give, bequeath and devise unto my daughters Mary Lucinda Applegate, Matilda Union Applegate, Annie Applegate and Julia Applegate and unto my sons Robert T. Middleditch Applegate, and Andrew Gassner Applegate the use and enjoyment of a home of the Homestead Premises situate on Hudson Street in the Town of Freehold, Monmouth County New Jersey together with all the furniture now in or hereafter to be placed in the dwelling house thereon, for and during such time as they shall remain unmarried; in case any one or more of them marry, then upon their marriage, their right to the use and enjoyment of said homestead premises and furniture to cease; but the marriage of any one or more of them, not to affect, in any manner, the right to the use and enjoyment of said homestead premises and furniture of those of them, or any one of them remaining unmarried; those of my said children who shall have the actual use and enjoyment of said homestead premises and furniture for a home shall keep the same insured and in repair reasonable wear and tear excepted, and shall pay the taxes thereon.

Fifth When all of my said children to wit Mary Lucinda Applegate, Matilda Union Applegate, Annie Applegate, Julia Applegate, Robert T. Middleditch Applegate and Andrew Gassner Applegate shall have gotten married, then as soon as conveniently can be after the marriage of the one who last gets married, or in case of the death of any one or more of them before marriage then upon the death of all of them unmarried, I do order my executors herein after named or the survivor or survivors of them, to sell the homestead premises and furniture and to distribute the proceeds thereof, and I do hereby give and bequeath the proceeds thereof equally share and share alike unto all of my children to with Edwin Clark Applegate, William French Applegate, Lois Angeline Grant, wife of John Grant, Mary Lucinda Applegate, Matilda Union Applegate, Eaton Whiting Maxcy Applegate, Robert T. Middleditch Applegate, Annie Applegate, Andrew Gassner Applegate and Julia Applegate to them and their heirs forever.

Sixth I order and direct my executors hereinafter named the survivors or survivor of them, to sell, as soon as convenient after my decease, all the residue of my real estate where ever situate, and to distribute the proceeds of the sale thereof, and I do hereby bequeath the proceeds of the sale thereof, and also all my other personal property of whatever nature and where situate equally share and share alike unto all of my children to wit unto Edwin Clark Applegate, William French Applegate, Lois Angeline Grant wife of John Grant, Mary Lucinda Applegate, Matilda Union Applegate, Eaton Whiting Maxcy Applegate, Robert T. Middleditch Applegate, Annie Applegate, Andrew Gassner Applegate and Julia Applegate to them and their heirs forever.

Seventh I do give to my executors and to the survivors or survivor of them full power and authority to grant bargain sell and convey any or all of my lands, to any person or persons, in fee simple, at public or private sale upon such terms as they shall think fit.

Eighth I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my daughter Mary Lucinda Applegate and three of my sons to wit my three sons Eaton Whiting Maxcy Applegate, Robert T. Middleditch Applegate and Andrew Gassner Applegate, the executors of this my last will and testament
In witness whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand this twenty seventh day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty five.
