John Charles Applegate, born Apr. 5, 1882 in Patoka, IN; died Jan. 13, 1947 in Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., IN. He married on Dec. 4, 1901 to Lueretta Ellen Chaney, born May 23, 1883 in Dale, Pike Co., IN; died May 24, 1961 in Evansville, IN, daughter of Isaac Barr Chaney and Mary Ellen Edwards. At one time, John was employed to play music while men unloaded freight from boats docked on the Ohio River as music was supposed to make the men work faster. John played the guitar, violin, drums, bass and mandolin. He is especially remembered for playing a "mean" Spanish fandango on the guitar. They are buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Newburgh, IN. He married on Dec. 2, 1875 in Patoka, IN to Lucinda (Sinda) Benjamin Fullerton, born Mar. 23, 1856; died July 9, 1914 at Patoka and was buried in Patoka Cemetery there, daughter of Charles Fullerton and Palmyra Myer. In both 1880 and 1900 census, they were living in Princeton, Gibson Co., Ind. In 1880, his grandmother, Amelia Rupert, was living with them as well as his sister, Mary, brother, Charles, and three cousins, Ella Wendell, born 1857 in Ohio; Clayton Weist, born 1868 in Ind., and Andrew Weist, born 1866 in Indiana.
