She was born the daughter of Rufus and Lula (Denney) Coffey on November 10, 1940 in Monticello, Kentucky. She married Norman G. Applegate of Indianapolis, Indiana on July 5, 1957 and they remained married for 51 years. Joyce was the loving mother of three sons, Norman Jr., Lenard Ray (Brenda) and Waylon Keith (Robyn)and the fourth son, Rubin "The Bird"; granddaughters, Teresa Michelle, Deboralea Lucretia and Amber Nicole; great grandchildren, Alexis Marie, Michaelea Sue, Jacobi Fabian and Natalli Lynn; sisters, Dona Collie, Wanda Beck, Anna Rust and Linda McGruder (deceased); brothers, Rufus Coffey, Jr. and David Samuel Coffey. All who survive will miss her warm smile, wonderful meals and unconditional love. Services entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center - Washington Park East.
