Dear and affectionate son

I now inform you that I am in reasonable health at present. [Y]our friends here are generally well considering the fatal Diseases prevailing in our country.

I now with heart felt sorrow have to inform you of the Death of your Mother who Departed this life on the 10th of this inst after a short illness of the Colera. [S]he only survived about fifteen or sixteen hours after she was taken. [T]he Colera is prevailing in our country very Much and very fatal but very few that have been been taken have ever recovered and not Much prospect of its Leaving heare at present. I should be glad to heare from your country whether this Dreadfull Disease prevails as Much there as it Does here.

I now inform you that I have applied twice for my pension and have failed. I now intend to try the third time and if I fail again I shal then give it up. I intend to send this time by one of our Members of Congress and try what he can Do for me.

[A]llso two of our Doctors James B Slaughter & Benj. Adams have Died with the Colora. I am still Living at Isaiah Applegates and your sister Hannah Wishes to Be remembered to you and all others.

Excuse the shortness of this for it is in hast.
